Captive mornings

With the advent of smartphones, perpetual communication is at our fingertips. The question I ask myself is how much does it liberate us and how much does it tie us down. Some thoughts on how mornings have evolved as life moves on (penned early one morning in Jan 2018).

Ten minutes then-
Humming songs,
thinking of play,
All joys, no worries, and
Looking ahead….

Ten minutes then-
Giggling, blushing,
Making memories,
Spinning dreams, and
Looking ahead….

Ten minutes then-
Escaping from the wails,
the toddler tantrums,
A bit of respite, peace and
Looking ahead….

Ten minutes now-
Disconnected from the self,
but for counting the ‘likes’,
No hums, dreams, or inner peace,
Captive to the screen,
Looking down….

  1. Nicely put Archana, such deep thoughts. Communication has become easier, but what about communication with self. We never have time to reflect on self. Whatever extra time we so-called may have is taken by WhatsApp, facebook. I do not think it has liberated us, quite the opposite. For some reason, I prefer to send a text than actually call someone – is it my generation or I am being lazy!

    1. Thanks Sudhanwa. Clearly, you’ve thought about this too….
Next time you start typing, just call me 😉

  2. Then and Now…. we all just need 10 mins to find joy and peace❤️Very well versed AK!

  3. You said it so well. Those precious 10 minutes indeed and how times have changed. Even if we exercise better choices the world around is not the same.

  4. Nice!! Something that we all should try not to forget – treating our souls with the natural bliss every now and then!!

  5. Completely agree with you on how things have changed. However. with that I have learnt to be more disciplined and prioritize communications now!
