Anniversary wishes

Inspiration to write can come at odd hours of the day. It was just past 4 a.m. this morning that I woke up. A jumble of thoughts filled my mind as I slid back into fitful sleep, complete with an early morning dream with a muse 🙂

I was up a few hours later, deciding to go old school using paper and pencil first, rather than opening the laptop and risk connecting to VPN and the workplace! The hot cup of coffee, the sun-kissed backyard after the rain showers, and the humming bird wouldn’t let it be any other way.

Congratulations! May silver turn gold, half century to century!” One small sentence that conveyed so very much. This was from 1986, the year my parents celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. I was totally impressed by the brevity and depth of those nine words. Even now I can see the unmistakable telegram print in my mind’s eye which my parents’ close friends had sent to our home in small town Okha. They would have made great Twitter users 😉

Many moons, many journeys and six grandchildren later, the silver did turn gold. This week we celebrate their 58 years together. As Aai and Baba now sometimes quibble in their What-did-you-say-again, Was-that-yesterday, Am-I-losing-control days lately, I am reminded of a small stanza I had penned, in my starry-eyed teenage years –

Life calm as the deep ocean blue,
Stormy days but those very few,
Sharing, caring, helping each other through-
May the love you share come into our lives too…

I am looking forward to the the gold turning diamond in just a couple of years!
